<\/p>\nEL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 After a yearlong break and motherhood, El Paso boxer Kayla Gomez will make her professional debut. <\/p>\n
Gomez is set to fight Shayntain Creer in Long Beach, California, for her pro debut on Friday.<\/p>\n

ARC anchor, boxer and Gomez’s sparring partner Christian Andrade interviewed her on Thursday ahead of her fight, where she shared her excitement about returning to the ring after she became a mother.<\/p>\n
“I’m feeling great. I’m excited to be back,” Gomez said. “I’m ready to show people what the truth is made out of… I’m ready to put on a show for y’all [El Paso] specifically.”<\/p>\n
After motherhood, Gomez said she had to work on her core, as there was some ab separation<\/a> as pregnancy stretched her abdominal area.<\/p>\n Gomez admitted that after the hiatus, she feels a little nervous; however, with a smile on her face, Gomez said it’s a good thing. <\/p>\n RECOMMENDED: Zendejas’s New Heights Nutrition to host USA vs Australia watch party<\/a><\/p>\n “I haven’t taken this long to break, but I’ve been doing this since I was nine years old, 14 years. So… this just reminds me of my first national tournament,” Gomez said. “You kind of have the nerves and excitement, but I feel like that will only make me better.”<\/p>\n When Andrade asked Gomez when we might see her fight in El Paso as a pro, she said she would love to, but first needs to talk to her managers and promoters about that. <\/p>\n “So I’d love to just show my city in person how I get down,” Gomez said. “So hopefully that is something we could do in the future.”<\/p>\n Speaking about her promoters, MF Pro, Gomez said she is thankful for them believing in her just as much as she does.<\/p>\n “But at the same time… I owe it all to God, Gomez said. <\/p>\n Through the years, KFOX14\/CBS4 has been following Gomez’s career ever since she was a teenager.<\/p>\n In 2021, at the age of 17, Gomez qualified for the U.S. Olympic boxing team.<\/p>\n READ MORE: El Paso teenager qualifies for U.S. Olympic boxing team<\/a><\/p>\n Then, in 2022, the City of El Paso honored Gomez by proclaiming May 24 as Kayla Gomez Day.<\/p>\n READ MORE: City of El Paso pays honors boxing champion Kayla Gomez<\/a><\/p>\n
