SAN ELIZARIO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A couple was arrested in San Elizario after authorities said they rescued a severely malnourished dog.<\/p>\n
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Carlos Jasso, 30, and Myalena Morales, 25, were arrested Monday evening after Animal Welfare officers had discovered a dog living in unsanitary conditions and showing signs of extreme emaciation, like his ribs, spine and even facial bones visible, as he was in a small space with no food or water, with trash and dried feces and exposed to the heat. <\/p>\n
The discovery was made on June 11 at the 12100 block of Socorro Road. <\/p>\n
Authorities said Jasso and Morales were identified as the owners, who, during the investigation, allegedly failed to show proof that they had recently taken the dog to a veterinarian. <\/p>\n
RECOMMENDED: El Paso County man pleads guilty to organizing cockfights, gets 2 years\u2019 probation<\/a><\/p>\n Deputies obtained warrants for the arrest of the two and on Monday, at around 6:59 p.m., both Jasso and Morales were arrested.<\/p>\n Jail records show Jasso and Morales were both booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals.<\/p>\n Jasso’s bond was set at $5,000, while Morales’ was set at $3,000. <\/p>\n According to jail records, both were released from jail on Tuesday after posting a surety bond. <\/p>\n
