Abbott orders flags to be lowered for Texas DPS trooper killed in Childress County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">AUSTIN, Texas (KFDA) &#8211; Governor Greg Abbott has ordered Texas and U.S. flags at all Texas DPS facilities to be lowered at half-staff to honor Trooper Sergio Romero. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Trooper Romero was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newschannel10.com\/2026\/06\/18\/texas-dps-trooper-killed-line-of-duty-crash-childress-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.newschannel10.com\/2026\/06\/18\/texas-dps-trooper-killed-line-of-duty-crash-childress-county\/\">killed in a traffic crash while on duty<\/a> in Childress County on June 17. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">DPS says a semi pulled out in front of Trooper Romero\u2019s patrol vehicle. He died at the scene. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cTrooper Romero dedicated his life to protecting others with courage, integrity, and selfless devotion. We mourn alongside his wife, Francisca, their two young sons, his fellow Troopers, and all who knew and loved him,\u201d said Gov. Abbott. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Gov. Abbott ordered flags to be lowered half-staff at all Texas DPS facilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Flags on the State Capitol building will also be lowered on the day of Trooper Romero\u2019s memorial service. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cPlease join us in praying for his family and the entire DPS community.
