LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)\u00a0\u2014\u00a0More than three decades after a Hardin County sexual assault went unsolved, Kentucky State Police said DNA evidence led to the arrest of Alberto Campirano, 66, of Texas.<\/p>\n
Campirano is accused of breaking into a Hardin County home in 1990 and sexually assaulting a woman who was alone with her children.<\/p>\n
The case sat unsolved for decades before investigators reopened it in 2022 through Kentucky State Police’s Sexual Assault Initiative team, which reviews cold cases using modern forensic testing.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the breakthrough came after DNA from a separate Texas case involving Campirano was matched to evidence collected in the 36-year-old Hardin County case.<\/p>\n
A Hardin County grand jury indicted Campirano June 11 on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and first-degree burglary.<\/p>\n
Campriano is awaiting extradition to Kentucky.\u00a0<\/p>\n
