Another busy week down on the farm as the season continues to roll on. Here\u2019s a look at some of the biggest developments across the system with this week\u2019s Pipeline Report.<\/p>\n
System Spotlight Back in the 2023 MLB Draft, the Astros held the final selection of the draft after winning the 2022 World Series. With that last pick, Houston selected infielder Pascanel Ferreras out of Western Carolina University. Three years later, Ferreras is making a strong case that he could become one of the biggest steals of that draft class.<\/p>\n The 24-year-old opened the 2026 season in Double-A Corpus Christi and put together a solid showing, hitting .263 with a .763 OPS across 30 games. His performance earned him a promotion to Triple-A Sugar Land, where he has elevated his game to another level. Through his first 13 games with the Space Cowboys, Ferreras is batting an impressive .468 with four doubles, two home runs, 15 RBIs, and three stolen bases. Even more remarkable, he has recorded at least one hit in every Triple-A game so far, including seven multi-hit performances.<\/p>\n Ferreras brings value in a variety of ways. He possesses enough power to get some extra base hits, can contribute on the bases, and offers defensive versatility across the diamond. This season alone, he has spent time at second base, third base, and shortstop, and he even logged games in the outfield last year. If Ferreras continues producing at this level, it may not be long before the Astros are forced to give him an opportunity at the major league level.<\/p>\n Continuing to Impress Huezo was drafted by the Astros in the 12th round of the 2023 draft and got an overslot bonus. He bounced around rookie ball for a couple of years before making it into Fayetteville to end the 2025 season, and performed well hitting .301 over 22 games. He started the 2026 season back in Fayetteville and has been one of the best hitters in the system.<\/p>\n Through 55 games, Huezo is hitting .264 with 17 doubles, 4 triples, 12 home runs and 26 stolen bases. He leads the system in doubles, triples and is 4th in stolen bases. The young outfielder has provided plenty of pop and some massive homers, while also being a threat on the bases. Given he is still only 20 years old, there is no need to rush him but I could see a promotion for him after the draftees in July start to get assigned.<\/p>\n Under-the-Radar Performer Kyle Walker, the Astros\u2019 eighth-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, has wasted little time establishing himself as one of the organization\u2019s more intriguing infield prospects. Following a standout collegiate season at Arizona State, Walker received an aggressive assignment to High-A Asheville to begin his first full professional season.<\/p>\n The 23-year-old has responded well to the challenge. Through 53 games with the Tourists, Walker is hitting .277 with a .769 OPS while contributing across multiple facets of the game. He has collected 16 doubles, two home runs, and 23 stolen bases, showcasing a blend of contact ability, gap power, and speed.<\/p>\n Walker\u2019s underlying metrics have been equally encouraging. He owns a 12.0% walk rate and an 19.5% strikeout rate, demonstrating a nice approach at the plate and the ability to control the strike zone against advanced pitching. Like Pascanel Ferreras, Walker\u2019s versatility has become a valuable part of his profile. He has logged time at second base, third base, and shortstop this season, giving the organization multiple ways to keep his bat in the lineup while increasing his overall value.<\/p>\n One Transaction This Week Saunier was selected by the Astros in the 17th round of the 2025 MLB Draft. The right-hander spent two seasons at Mississippi before transferring to Texas for his junior year, where he posted a 3.86 ERA across 25.2 innings. After not appearing in a game following the draft, Saunier made his professional debut this season in the Florida Complex League, firing three no-hit innings while striking out three. This week, the Astros promoted him to Fayetteville, where he is expected to make his full-season debut in the coming days.<\/p>\n Promotion Watch At this point, the most logical help could come in the form of an arm, and most likely a bullpen arm. This points to one player, right-hander Miguel Ullola<\/a>. Ullola was once one of the top pitching prospects in the system but has made a change to the bullpen over the last couple of weeks.
