The countdown is on for one of the most anticipated openings<\/a> along the I-35 corridor.\u00a0Less than two months before Buc-ee’s is scheduled<\/a> to open its first San Marcos travel center, the iconic beaver has officially arrived on-site.<\/p>\n

New photos taken this week show the massive travel center nearing the finish line, with the chain’s signature logo now mounted on the exterior, a prominent “Coming Soon” sign visible from the interstate and much of the building’s facade appearing largely complete. For drivers who have watched the project rise from a dirt lot over the past year, the site now bears a striking resemblance to the chain’s established locations across Texas, including the New\u00a0Braunfels store roughly 19 miles to the south.<\/a><\/p>\n

The latest construction update offers what may be one of the final looks at the project before crews shift their focus to finishing touches ahead of opening day.<\/p>\n

Located at the southwest corner of I-35 and Yarrington Road, the roughly 74,000-square-foot travel center is slated to open August\u00a012 at 6 a.m, a Buc-ee’s spokesperson previously told\u00a0MySA.\u00a0The $47.2 million development<\/a> will feature more than 100 fueling positions, electric vehicle charging stations and the oversized convenience store experience that has helped make Buc-ee’s a Texas road-trip staple.<\/p>\n

The transformation is significant compared with earlier construction updates. Last fall, only steel framing and concrete wall panels were visible from the highway. By April, crews were still installing brickwork and exterior finishes while the beaver logo remained absent from the building.<\/p>\n

Today, the structure is largely recognizable as a finished Buc-ee’s.<\/p>\n

Once operational, the San Marcos location is expected to employ about 175 full-time workers and will further expand the company’s growing presence along the booming Austin-to-San Antonio corridor. The store will sit between Buc-ee’s locations in New Braunfels and Temple, creating one of the shortest distances between Buc-ee’s travel centers anywhere in Texas.<\/p>\n

For now, construction is entering its final stretch as crews continue work around the property, but the finish line is clearly in sight.<\/p>\n
