That’s a sentence most probably didn’t expect to read.

But it’s the reality, as the Arizona Cardinals upset the Dallas Cowboys on the road 27-17 on Monday Night Football to end Week 9.

Arizona established its dominance early and never really allowed Dallas to get in a rhythm in the game, with the lone miscue being a rare blocked punt that was recovered in the end zone for a Cowboys touchdown.

Prescott attempted the comeback after a shaky first half, but the Cardinals’ pass rush eased any worries given their recent collapses in fourth quarters.

The win moved Arizona to 3-5, ending a five-game skid with divisional opponents Seattle and San Francisco next amid a tight NFC West battle. Dallas, meanwhile, dropped to 3-5-1 in a weaker-than-expected NFC East and now enter its bye week looking for answers once again.

Let’s analyze the prime time matchup further with winners and losers:

WINNER: Jacoby Brissett, Cardinals

Backup quarterbacks continue to be imperative this season. They’re not just fighting to show they’re good enough now. They’re hoping to impress enough to get another shot every season, regardless of what team they’re playing for.

Brissett’s journey has taken him to Arizona, where he has stepped up amid Kyler Murray’s multiple-week injury. Despite starting in the last two losses, Brissett helped keep the games close.

Today he went for 261 passing yards, two touchdowns and no picks on 21 of 31 completions. He also added a QB sneak score. He may not be enough to lift Arizona into the playoffs, but he’s been good enough to stick around as a QB2 and emergency QB1 for postseason hopefuls.

LOSER: Dallas turnovers

Turnovers can dictate games. Whereas Arizona didn’t cough up the ball once, Dallas did three times. The Cowboys should be fortunate not to have more given some close calls.

Prescott was at fault for one interception late on and should’ve had another early, but it was a pure drop by Mack Wilson Sr. Jake Ferguson and Javonte Williams both lost fumbles, while George Pickens fumbled twice but fortunately none proved costly.

The Cowboys haven’t been good enough from a pure football standpoint this season. The simple fundamentals are proving just as costly.

WINNER: Marvin Harrison Jr., Cardinals

Marvin Harrison Sr. can be happy to watch Arizona’s offense again. His son, Harrison Jr., had one of his best games in a Cardinals jersey.

The young wideout caught seven passes on 10 targets for 96 yards and a touchdown, looking every bit of the WR1 potential he’s often flashed. It’s certainly helped that he has developing chemistry with Brissett.

Harrison Jr. also left with a highlight-reel route against DaRon Bland, who had issues covering the wideout all night.

LOSER: Kyler Murray, Cardinals

Arizona’s QB1 is in a bit of a tough spot. The former No. 1 overall pick is still nursing an injury, but it’s not exactly a good sign that the Cardinals offense operates much smoother without him. Commentators Joe Buck and Troy Aikman even said near the game’s conclusion that they expect Brissett to remain QB1 even when Murray is back.

If that is the case, maybe things change if Brissett starts to struggle again and Murray’s dynamism is needed. But if Murray starts to become unhappy with the developments, QB-needy teams should start poking around next offseason.

WINNER: Calais Campbell, Cardinals

Prescott struggled to dice up Arizona’s secondary consistently. It didn’t help that Arizona’s pass rush continuously wreaked havoc in front of the plays. Josh Sweat continued to get the better of Prescott, bringing him down twice.

And so did the evergreen veteran Calais Campbell. The league’s oldest active defender recorded two sacks of his own on the night, showing 39-year-old rushers can still get the job done.

Here are five things to know about Dallas Cowboys owner, president and general manager Jerry Jones.

Jacoby Brissett has outdueled Dak Prescott.
