Owner of East Texas gas plant wanted by international police<\/p>\n

The owner of a vital Gregg County gas plant<\/a> is wanted by international police.<\/p>\n

Brazilian authorities want Ricardo Magro, who lives in Miami, to be extradited back to that country to face tax evasion charges, reported Plataforma<\/a>, a Portuguese newspaper.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Magro and his family have significant holdings in the oil and gas industry and own the Longview Gas Plant, which is technically closer to White Oak. The plant was acquired by J. Global Energy Midstream (JGE) in 2020, a company controlled by Magro, the News-Journal reported in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brazilian authorities have been investigating Magro and his associates since at least 2024, and in May, the Supreme Court in Brazil ordered one of his petroleum companies \u2014 Refit \u2014 to halt operations amid a tax evasion investigation. Brazilian authorities consider Magro to be that nation\u2019s largest tax evader, Plataforma reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Magro was ordered to be arrested on pre-trial detention, and was ordered to be put \u200bon Interpol\u2019s Red Notice list, which alerts foreign law enforcement agencies to arrest him, Reuters reported. Interpol is the International Criminal Police Organization, which brings together law enforcement agencies from 196 countries, including the U.S.<\/p>\n

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has asked President Donald Trump publicly \u200bto have Magro arrested, Reuters reported<\/a> in May.<\/p>\n

Whether Magro has been to the Gregg County facility \u2014 or ever will come to visit \u2014 is unknown, so it\u2019s also unknown whether local law enforcement would have any role in arresting him. The plant is outside the White Oak city limits, so the Gregg County Sheriff\u2019s Office has jurisdiction there.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lt. Jonathan Prior with the sheriff\u2019s office said Thursday: \u201cWe are always going to assist and cooperate with any law enforcement agency on an ongoing investigation, but we are not going to comment on any operation or future operation in regards to any criminal investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

White Oak Police Chief Brannon Robertson said his department would assist with the arrest of someone with a warrant if requested.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Safety concerns at plant<\/p>\n

More than 600 miles of gas pipelines coverage at the gas plant, which is off U.S. 80. The plant processes low-quality or \u201coff-spec\u201d gas produced in the region and converts that gas into valuable and volatile end products such as propane, hexane, butane and condensate, the News-Journal reported in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If the plant ceased to operate, oil operations in several counties would also cease, as it\u2019s the only facility in the region capable of converting off-spec gas into the more useful products.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Department of Homeland Security and the Texas Railroad Commission consider the Longview Gas Plant to be critical infrastructure, and local authorities have said any major safety concerns at the plant could pose danger to the White Oak community.\u00a0<\/p>\n
