A tearful Iowa TV anchor whose emotional on-air farewell went viral<\/a> has attracted scrutiny over the striking similarities between his goodbye speech and the sign-off delivered years earlier by legendary Dallas sportscaster Dale Hansen.<\/p>\n

Dustin Nolan, the former morning anchor at KWQC-TV in Davenport, Iowa, drew national attention last week after choking up while announcing he was leaving both the station and the news business.<\/p>\n

Dustin Nolan told KWQC viewers there would be \u201cno more TV tomorrows\u201d for him during his tearful farewell. KWQC TV6<\/p>\n

But media industry watchdog FTVLive noted <\/a>that several of Nolan\u2019s remarks closely resembled lines delivered by Hansen during his celebrated retirement broadcast on Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA in September 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cNolan\u2019s video was getting all kinds of play, but if it sounded familiar to you, there might be a reason for that,\u201d FTVLive noted.<\/p>\n

The similarities went beyond a single phrase.<\/p>\n

Both men spoke about television\u2019s duty to make viewers uncomfortable, criticized \u201csanitized\u201d news, urged audiences to step outside their \u201cbubbles\u201d and ended their farewells with the identical declaration: \u201cThere will be no more TV tomorrows for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the most notable similarities was Nolan\u2019s declaration that local television should challenge viewers rather than simply comfort them.<\/p>\n

Dale Hansen used the same \u201cno more TV tomorrows\u201d line when he signed off from WFAA after 41 years on Dallas television. WFAA<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to take people out of their bubbles and comfort zones and make them think about the world we all live in,\u201d Nolan said during his farewell.<\/p>\n

The line echoed Hansen\u2019s retirement message four years earlier.<\/p>\n

During his farewell, Hansen paid tribute to longtime friend Denny Livingston.<\/p>\n

Nolan used nearly identical language while praising his wife and co-anchor Jenna.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you don\u2019t have a Jenna in your life, I suggest you find one. Because she makes dreams come true in every way another human can\u2019t,\u201d Nolan said.<\/p>\n

The closing lines of the two broadcasts also appeared remarkably similar.<\/p>\n

Hansen, a larger-than-life Dallas broadcasting institution, retired in 2021 after more than four decades on local television<\/a>. His final sign-off was widely praised and became one of the most memorable farewell speeches in local TV news.<\/p>\n

Nolan\u2019s farewell generated headlines of its own after clips of the emotional broadcast spread across social media and were picked up by national outlets.<\/p>\n

Neither Nolan nor Hansen immediately commented on the comparisons.<\/p>\n
