WEATHERFORD \u2013 Michael Stan Royal, aged 82, beloved husband and devoted father, passed away on June 15 in Fort Worth, Texas. Stan was born on October 5, 1943, in Denton, Texas, to Mack Hobart and Lela Gladys Royal. He grew up primarily in West Texas, but also called Southeastern New Mexico and Southern California home. From humble beginnings, Stan attended high school in Fullerton, California, and subsequently earned his bachelor\u2019s degree in economics from Texas Christian University. He married Patricia Meyers in November of 1966, and together they raised their family of sons in Arlington. After a short period of military service, Stan started his career as one of the first- generation mainframe computer programmers. He began at Bell Helicopter and EDS, and ultimately went on to found three software development firms and lead them as CEO. He was highly regarded for his entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen, and for the example he set as a role model \u2013 most notably for the way he treated, trusted, and endeared his employees. Stan\u2019s work took him around the world and fueled his appreciation for travel. Combined with a love of hunting and fishing, TCU college sports, wine, and golf, he found himself in places that served both his commercial pursuits and personal passions. Stan cherished the international trips, but the destinations he loved the most were those stateside spots where he and his friends could enjoy their favorite pastimes. Alaska and Northern California were among his favorites. Stan took an interest in local civics and politics, and he served as a City Alderman in Dalworthington Gardens for three terms, where he oversaw the development of a new City Hall as well as several public safety improvements. When he relocated to Round Top, Texas, in 2017, he always participated in fundraisers and events where his contributions could impact the community. Stan was the keystone of a loving, extended family, as well as a group of friends he regarded as kin. Through his life, he stayed close to his sister Kay, and often sought the company of his nieces and nephews. He diligently supported TCU athletics in both donations and attendance, and particularly enjoyed his network of friends at the country clubs and dear leases he was a part of. He is survived by his wife, Patty of nearly sixty years; his sons, Charles, Scott, and Stuart; his granddaughters, Rebecca and Elizabeth; and his grandson, Bowie. Stan is also remembered by his sister, Kay Krausman, whom he loved dearly, along with her immediate family in Anaheim, California. In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by his aunts, Emma and Essie, who were an instrumental influence on his life. The family wishes to thank the dedicated medical professionals and caregivers that saw through his wellbeing and comfort until his death. Their support can never be acknowledged enough. Stan will be interred with his father and aunts in Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Arrangements for a celebration of Stan\u2019s life will be made at a date later in the year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to the TCU School of Medicine Endowed Scholarship for Physician Leaders.
