A new chapter in Plano\u2019s international business story is unfolding as the city officially welcomes the state\u2019s first Miyako Hybrid Hotel<\/a>, a luxury Japanese property that blends cultural elegance with sustainable design.<\/p>\n

A Boost For Business And Tourism<\/p>\n

At its Oct. 27 meeting<\/a>, the Plano City Council approved a pair of agreements<\/a> supporting the hotel\u2019s development through annual tax rebates and marketing funds. The move, city leaders say, underscores Plano\u2019s growing reputation as a hub for international business and hospitality.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlano is proud to be home to more than 40 Japanese companies, including the North American headquarters of Toyota Motor and NTT DATA,\u201d Director of Economic Development Doug McDonald told Local Profile. \u201cThe new Miyako Hotel is a prestigious addition to our community, bringing a distinguished cultural brand with deep roots in Japan and only two other locations in the United States. As the first Miyako Hotel in Texas, it will further strengthen the long-standing business and cultural connections between Plano and Japan.\u201d<\/p>\n

Under the approved economic development incentive agreement, the city will refund 50% of the property taxes paid on the building for 10 years beginning Jan. 1, 2028. A separate hotel occupancy tax grant will provide Kintetsu Group Holdings, the hotel\u2019s developer, with $70,000 annually for five years starting in 2028, to bolster tourism and convention activity.<\/p>\n

A Landmark In Legacy<\/p>\n

Construction is already underway<\/a> on the $117.5 million project, which will rise within The Park at Legacy, a district anchored by global employers and bustling entertainment venues. Kintetsu Group Holdings, which purchased a portion of the former JCPenney campus<\/a> in 2019, is developing the 12-story, 217-room boutique hotel.<\/p>\n

Designed by Gensler with interiors by Looney & Associates and construction led by The Beck Group, the roughly 205,000-square-foot property will emphasize energy efficiency and sustainable building practices, hallmarks of the \u201chybrid\u201d hotel concept.<\/p>\n

Blending Cultures Through Design<\/p>\n

When it opens in fall 2027, the Miyako Hybrid Hotel Plano will offer guests a taste of Japan with modern Texas touches. Amenities will include a traditional Japanese restaurant, an upscale lobby bar, a Japanese bakery and a rooftop bar. Visitors will also find a Japanese spa, outdoor pool, fitness center and flexible event spaces designed for business gatherings and community celebrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis addition is more than just a hotel,\u201d McDonald said. \u201cIt is an amenity that supports our existing Japanese companies, enhances our ability to attract future investment and provides a unique hospitality experience for our residents and their families to enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the project now underway, Plano\u2019s newest luxury addition aims to serve as a cultural bridge, honoring the city\u2019s deep Japanese business ties while offering residents and visitors a destination unlike anything else in North Texas.<\/p>\n
