A Texas neighborhood went into lockdown after over 24 million bees reportedly escaped from an 18-wheeler that lost control and flipped into a ditch.<\/p>\n

According to a post on X by Collin Rugg, the \u201ctruck was carrying more than 400 hives with about 60,000+ bees in each hive\u201d when the incident occurred.<\/p>\n

The bees were being transported to North Dakota when the truck driver made a wrong turn and drove into a neighborhood. However, the truck flipped onto its right side after the driver made a sharp turn.<\/p>\n

Because bee stings could have serious effects on people who were stung, locals in Orange County, Texas, were told to seal their windows and remain inside their homes.<\/p>\n

According to a local beekeeper, only around 25% of the bees were expected to survive, depending on whether the queens remained alive.<\/p>\n

According to a report by Dexerto<\/a>, the incident took place on Sunday morning. Soon after, emergency crews were pressed into action to shut down the roads while others worked to recover as many hives as possible.<\/p>\n

Orange County ESD #4 warned residents to remain indoors in a Facebook post. It read:<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone that lives in the 1130\/Colony Dr. area please remain indoors. An 18 wheeler carrying beehives has turned over and there is a heavy presence of bees in the area OCSO and ESD4 units are on scene.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fortunately, volunteers from several other beekeeping businesses showed up to help at the crash scene. Christie Ray, who owns nearby Queen Bee Supply, said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThey just help each other, that\u2019s what they do.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe beekeeping community is a great community.\u201d<\/p>\n

The owner of Moore Honey, Chris Moore, joined in the rescue efforts along with his son and several employees, and said this was a major loss. He stated:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a big loss. Any time you lose that many in one shot, it\u2019s a big loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

No serious injuries were reported. Dexerto reported that one of KFDM\u2019s photojournalists was stung while filming.<\/p>\n
