What coaches, players said about Downs at minicamp<\/p>\n
Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker says there has been no surprise with Downs. He is\u00a0exactly \u201cas advertised,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0the Cowboys defensive play-caller said.<\/p>\n Parker was also happy to report that Downs is \u201cdoing great\u201d in his first offseason with the Cowboys and the\u00a0work ethic, willingness to learn and attention to detail<\/a>\u00a0we heard so much about during the pre-draft process have shined through.<\/p>\n \u201cBut he\u2019s been doing great. He\u2019s a worker. He looks for coaching. He craves that. He wants to be corrected,\u201d Parker said. \u201cHe wants more information. And he works as hard as he can with the extras and everything else. So it\u2019s been good. He\u2019s been good to work with, and I think that he\u2019s trying to advance at the right rate.\u201d<\/p>\n As you\u2019d expect, expectations for Downs have been through the roof. Parker says the important thing is just sticking to the usual process of developing a rookie.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that we try to lessen those expectations in terms of what goes on outside of these walls. There\u2019s a certain process to take as a rookie in general in the National Football League, and we try to abide by that process,\u201d Parker said.<\/p>\n Cowboys veteran defensive lineman Quinnen Williams<\/a>\u00a0echoed a lot of what Parker said<\/a>, and his view of Downs seems to be the overwhelming consensus among the rookie\u2019s teammates.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a DB first, so I kind of don\u2019t really see him too much on the field,\u201d Williams said. \u201cBut getting a chance to talk to him, getting a chance to be around him, see how hard he works, he\u2019s a Bama guy at heart, so he\u2019s the real deal to me. So I\u2019m super happy to have him here. He\u2019s a phenomenal guy, man. Listens, learns, eager to do the right thing and extremely humble, extremely hard-working.
