Gracie was last seen Monday on a game camera west of Leakey, moving through dense brush in rugged Hill Country terrain. Leakey is about 90 miles northwest of San Antonio.

A possible sighting was reported Tuesday night, placing her farther from Cedar Hollow Ranch than expected, but officials said that report could not be confirmed.

Gracie, a reticulated giraffe estimated to be between 3 1/2 and 4 years old, arrived at Cedar Hollow Ranch in May. Ranch owner Vick Jones told the New York Times the giraffe is known for roaming more freely than others on the property and has a distinctive feature: notably rounded ears.

The ranch, which is home to several hundred exotic animals, said steep canyon terrain typically helps keep giraffes contained, but Gracie managed to move beyond an enclosure gate and into surrounding Hill Country brush.

Comment with Bubbles

BE THE FIRST TO COMMENT

A $5,000 reward remains in place for information leading to Gracie’s safe return.

LEAKEY, Texas — Search efforts continue for a missing giraffe in the Texas Hill Country as officials say…

[6
27,29,28
post-350293","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-texas","tag-texas","tag-texas-headlines","tag-texas-news
["GET
