{"id":350310,"date":"2026-06-25T19:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T19:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/350310\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T19:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T19:04:08","slug":"twia-to-make-rate-decision-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/350310\/","title":{"rendered":"TWIA to make rate decision soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Decisions will be made soon about whether to change Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) rates in Port Aransas and other coastal communities.<\/p>\n<p>TWIA\u2019s Actuarial &amp; Underwriting Committee will meet on Tuesday, June 30, to develop recommendations to the TWIA Board of Directors on rates.<\/p>\n<p>People who want to make comments that can be reviewed by committee members before their meeting can do so by sending emails to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portasouthjetty.com\/articles\/public-may-comment-on-twia-rate-question\/mailto:PublicComment@TWIA.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PublicComment@TWIA.org<\/a>. TWIA is encouraging citizens to send emails by Friday, June 26 \u201cso the Committee can receive and review them before the June 30 meeting\u201d according to TWIA\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>However, \u201cTWIA staff will provide Committee with all written comments regardless of when they are received,\u201d the website says.<\/p>\n<p>More information on how to comment can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twia.org\/twia-posts-2026-rate-adequacy-analysis-actuarial-underwriting-committee-to-meet-on-rate-recommendation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.twia.org\/twia-posts-2026-rate-adequacy-analysis-actuarial-underwriting-committee-to-meet-on-rate-recommendation\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTWIA\u2019s 2026 Rate Adequacy Analysis indicates that current rates are adequate by 9 percent for residential coverage and 4 percent for commercial coverage,\u201d the website says.<\/p>\n<p>TWIA\u2019s Board of Directors is scheduled to meet on Aug. 4 to receive the Committee\u2019s recommendation, hear public comment and vote to direct staff on a rate filing.<\/p>\n<p>TWIA is required to submit a rate filing to the Texas Department of Insurance by Aug. 15.\u00a0\u00a0All TWIA filings are subject to review by the Texas insurance commissioner.
