Friends, I’ve spent years studying the fine art of backing out of plans at the last moment. I’ve come to only one conclusion:<\/p>\n

The most “Lubbock” way to cancel plans is to lie.<\/p>\n

Not a big scary lie.<\/p>\n

Not a harmful one.<\/p>\n

Just a little bitty teensy socially acceptable lie because saying, “I dont feel like putting on pants,” can sometimes feel a little rude.<\/p>\n

If you’re sitting there thinking, “I don’t lie to get out of plans,” then you’re double rotten for lying about plans, AND lying about lying about plans!<\/p>\n

How Lubbock Cancels Plans<\/p>\n

Think about it. How many times have you heard someone say:<\/p>\n

“Oh, sorry, something came up…”<\/p>\n

What came up exactly?<\/p>\n

That’s right.<\/p>\n

Nothing. Nothing came up.<\/p>\n

They came home from work, took off their bra, grabbed a snack, found a comfy seat on the couch, and decided whatever was happening on Netflix was more enticing than whatever plans you guys made.<\/p>\n

That’s what came up.<\/p>\n

Terrible Excuses<\/p>\n

Lubbock residents get especially creative with excuses, too.<\/p>\n

“I’ve got an early morning tomorrow. I really can’t.”<\/p>\n

As if that ever stopped any of us in college…<\/p>\n

“I’m not feeling good.”<\/p>\n

Yeah? Neither am I. I’m bored. That’s why were supposed to kick it…<\/p>\n

My personal favorite is:<\/p>\n

“I forgot I already had plans.”<\/p>\n

No, you didn’t, Sarah. The only plans you have are whatever leftovers are whispering to you from the fridge and MAYBE cleaning your cat’s litter box.<\/p>\n

We All Do it<\/p>\n

The funny thing is, all of us know when someone is lying about canceling plans. But we never call them out.<\/p>\n

You know why?<\/p>\n

Because we might be doing the exact same thing next week.<\/p>\n

And the week after.<\/p>\n

Until our streaming services give out.<\/p>\n

Until our A\/Cs stop running.<\/p>\n

It’s not dishonest.<\/p>\n

It’s just our way of life.<\/p>\n
