I’ve come to only one conclusion:

The most “Lubbock” way to cancel plans is to lie.

Not a big scary lie.

Not a harmful one.

Just a little bitty teensy socially acceptable lie because saying, “I dont feel like putting on pants,” can sometimes feel a little rude.

If you’re sitting there thinking, “I don’t lie to get out of plans,” then you’re double rotten for lying about plans, AND lying about lying about plans!

How Lubbock Cancels Plans

Think about it. How many times have you heard someone say:

“Oh, sorry, something came up…”

What came up exactly?

That’s right.

Nothing. Nothing came up.

They came home from work, took off their bra, grabbed a snack, found a comfy seat on the couch, and decided whatever was happening on Netflix was more enticing than whatever plans you guys made.

That’s what came up.

The Unofficial Lubbock Guide To Being A Trash Person

Read More: The Unofficial Lubbock Guide To Being A Trash Person

Terrible Excuses

Lubbock residents get especially creative with excuses, too.

“I’ve got an early morning tomorrow. I really can’t.”

As if that ever stopped any of us in college…

“I’m not feeling good.”

Yeah? Neither am I. I’m bored. That’s why were supposed to kick it…

My personal favorite is:

“I forgot I already had plans.”

No, you didn’t, Sarah. The only plans you have are whatever leftovers are whispering to you from the fridge and MAYBE cleaning your cat’s litter box.

We All Do it

The funny thing is, all of us know when someone is lying about canceling plans. But we never call them out.

You know why?

Because we might be doing the exact same thing next week.

And the week after.

Until our streaming services give out.

Until our A/Cs stop running.

It’s not dishonest.

It’s just our way of life.

FYI, friends, you never need an excuse to cancel plans with me. I’m always crossing my fingers and hoping you will, anyway!
