CANUTILLO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The Canutillo Independent School District Board of Trustees is set to consider a proposed 2026-2027 budget on Tuesday, as school systems across Texas face stagnant state funding and enrollment declines. <\/p>\n
Canutillo ISD trustees will weigh a proposed $65.6 million budget for the 2026-27 school year during its regular board meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the CISD Administration Building, located at 7965 Artcraft Rd.<\/p>\n
According to district officials, the proposed $65.6 million budget would keep spending in balance for a second year.<\/p>\n
District administrators said they developed the proposal after months of financial planning, cost-saving measures and a comprehensive review of district operations and staffing.<\/p>\n
The district said the proposed spending plan reflects reductions in operational costs and strategic restructuring of staff vacancies while maintaining investments in classroom instruction and student programs. <\/p>\n
The proposal also includes increased campus-level funding to support student achievement and the continued restoration and expansion of academic opportunities for students.<\/p>\n
Trustees are expected to discuss the budget and consider action during the regular meeting.<\/p>\n
The proposed budget comes after Canutillo ISD trustees unanimously approved a district restructuring plan in May. <\/p>\n
According to a presentation by Canutillo ISD Chief Human Resources Officer Martha Carrasco at a May board meeting, the plan deals with staffing changes, employee classifications, work calendars, and grant funding. <\/p>\n
Carrasco laid out 20 positions included in the restructure approved by trustees.<\/p>\n
The district\u2019s presentation listed about $2 million in additions overall, with some costs covered through grant funding.<\/p>\n
The presentation showed $447,281 in grant-funded credits, bringing the adjusted total impact to about $1.56 million.<\/p>\n
A separate savings slide listed more than $1.2 million in estimated savings from retirements, separations, reallocated positions and grant reclassifications.<\/p>\n
