EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A 76-year-old man died after a hit-and-run crash on Loop 375 South, and El Paso police are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver who fled the scene.<\/p>\n
On June 18, police were called to a crash on Loop 375 South near Pelicano around 11:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they found two vehicles at the scene.<\/p>\n
Manuel Oliva Contreras was driving southbound on Loop 375 when his vehicle was rear-ended by a dark-colored vehicle, identified by investigators as Unit 1. Contreras was initially reported to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries. However, police later learned he died at a hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.<\/p>\n
The Special Traffic Investigations unit took over the case. Preliminary information indicates the driver of Unit 1 was traveling southbound on Loop 375 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle rear-ended Contreras’s vehicle. According to police, the driver of unit one fled the scene on foot.<\/p>\n
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the crash or the driver who fled the scene to call police at (915)832-4400. Those who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915)566-TIPS (8477).<\/p>\n
Contreras’s death is the 22nd traffic fatality this year, compared to 29 at the same time last year.<\/p>\n
