EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 Abundant Church is launching a new summer outreach effort aimed at helping El Paso families facing food insecurity by hosting a Mega Food Giveaway on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The church says it expects to provide free food supplies to as many as 2,000 families during the event through a partnership with the nonprofit Convoy of Hope.<\/p>\n
Two semi-trucks filled with nonperishable food items, including canned goods, pasta, snacks and drinks, will be distributed to members of the community at Abundant Church East, located at 1000 Valley Crest Drive.<\/p>\n
The giveaway is part of the church’s ‘Heart of Abundant’ outreach initiative, which focuses on serving the community by addressing practical needs while fostering connection and encouragement.<\/p>\n
For nearly five decades, Abundant Church has been committed to serving El Paso families,” said Pastor Charles Nieman, co-founder and senior pastor of Abundant Church. “Whether it’s our holiday food giveaways, backpack distributions, or weekly outreach efforts, our heart has always been to show God’s love by giving back what’s been given to us. This partnership with Convoy of Hope allows us to reach even more families and make an even greater impact in our community.<\/p>\n
According to church leaders, Abundant Church has served Borderplex families for nearly 50 years through annual Thanksgiving food distributions, Christmas toy and food giveaways, backpack drives and other year-round outreach programs.<\/p>\n
The church hopes the new summer giveaway will become an annual tradition that expands its community support beyond the holiday season.<\/p>\n
“Food insecurity doesn’t take a summer vacation,” Nieman said. “We know many families continue to face challenges throughout the year, and we believe this event will provide meaningful support at a time when it is needed most.”<\/p>\n
The Mega Food Giveaway is open to the public. Attendees will receive a coupon during Sunday worship services that can be redeemed for food supplies while they last. Distribution will take place following the church’s 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. services on Sunday, June 28.<\/p>\n
