{"id":352191,"date":"2026-06-27T01:21:30","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T01:21:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/352191\/"},"modified":"2026-06-27T01:21:30","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T01:21:30","slug":"north-texas-capital-murder-suspect-captured-in-arizona-after-three-month-manhunt-authorities-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/352191\/","title":{"rendered":"North Texas capital murder suspect captured in Arizona after three\u2011month manhunt, authorities say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/texas-kaufman-county-shooting-investigation-teen-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">three\u2011month manhunt for a North Texas capital murder suspect<\/a> ended Friday in Arizona, where authorities captured the man accused of a violent rampage that left one teen dead and another wounded.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/diegorodriguez.png#.png\" alt=\"diegorodriguez.png \" height=\"478\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Diego Carlos Rodriguez, 18 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Diego Carlos Rodriguez, 18, was arrested in Douglas, Arizona, at about 3 p.m., according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/tag\/kaufman-county\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kaufman County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rodriguez allegedly fatally shot 18\u2011year\u2011old Kace Leatherwood and wounded Luis Velez, also 18, near County Road 103 in Kaufman County, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today&#8217;s arrest is the result of countless hours of investigative work and the unwavering commitment of our deputies, investigators, and law enforcement partners,&#8221; Sheriff Bryan Beavers said in a statement. &#8220;Our thoughts remain with the victim&#8217;s family as we continue seeking justice in this case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In April, federal officials issued a wanted alert for Rodriguez. At the time, authorities said two suspects remained at large.<\/p>\n<p>Family members of Leatherwood identified Rodriguez as one of the suspects, though local and federal authorities had not initially confirmed that connection publicly.<\/p>\n<p>Beavers praised &#8220;numerous&#8221; local, state, and federal law enforcement partners for helping track down Rodriguez.
