{"id":354241,"date":"2026-06-29T10:52:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T10:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/354241\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T10:52:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T10:52:11","slug":"saharan-dust-settles-into-texas-will-heat-hit-100-degrees-on-july-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/354241\/","title":{"rendered":"Saharan dust settles into Texas, will heat hit 100 degrees on July 4?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img alt=\"A dense plume of Saharan dust (seen here in\u00a0purple and blue)\u00a0in Texas on Monday could be concentrated enough to produce milky blue-white afternoon skies and add a noticeable orange tinge to the day's sunrise and sunset, according to the National Weather Service.\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\"   style=\"aspect-ratio:3 \/ 2\" class=\"x100 y100 opc bgpc ofcv bgscv block bg-gray200 mnh0px fill\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A dense plume of Saharan dust (seen here in\u00a0purple and blue)\u00a0in Texas on Monday could be concentrated enough to produce milky blue-white afternoon skies and add a noticeable orange tinge to the day&#8217;s sunrise and sunset, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p>Goddard Earth Observing System\/NASA\/WeatherBELL<\/p>\n<p>High atmospheric pressure and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/weather\/article\/austin-texas-saharan-dust-forecast-sunday-22322258.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dense plume of Saharan dust<\/a> will be the dominant influences on Central Texas weather this week, days before we celebrate the nation\u2019s 250th birthday this Fourth of July weekend.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe weather doesn\u2019t look to change much for South-Central Texas\u00a0during the last few days of June as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/weather\/article\/texas-heat-dome-hot-temperatures-weekend-22320999.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ridging (of high pressure) <\/a>retains a firm hold on local conditions,\u201d the National Weather Service said in a forecast bulletin posted online Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Expect dry air from the high pressure to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/weather\/article\/austin-texas-weekend-heat-air-quality-22322254.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">keep Austin rain-free<\/a> for the rest of June and into the first week of July, forecasters said.<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s forecast: Heat and dust<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the residual low-level (atmospheric) moisture\u00a0moves out of our area, that should allow slightly more favorable\u00a0daytime mixing to shave a few degrees off the afternoon heat\u00a0indices,\u201d the weather service said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Austin on Monday could see actual temperatures <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/weather\/article\/austin-forecast-texas-heat-triple-digit-weekend-22320378.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">flirt with the 100-degree mark<\/a>, getting to 99 degrees in the afternoon. But with southerly breezes and drier air in place, heat index values will rise only a few degrees higher, likely to 103.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main wrinkle in the weather Monday is that a decent plume of dusty Saharan air is expected to spread across Texas throughout the day Monday,\u201d the weather service said, adding that the concentration of dust \u201cshould be enough to produce milky blue-white afternoon skies and add a noticeable orange tinge to the day\u2019s sunrise and sunset, depending on timing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Heat index values will be in the triple digits by 3 p.m. Monday along the Interstate 35 corridor, including in Austin, according to the National Blend of Models, a composite weather forecast model.\" loading=\"lazy\"   style=\"aspect-ratio:3 \/ 2\" class=\"x100 y100 opc bgpc ofcv bgscv block bg-gray200 mnh0px fill\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Heat index values will be in the triple digits by 3 p.m. Monday along the Interstate 35 corridor, including in Austin, according to the National Blend of Models, a composite weather forecast model.<\/p>\n<p>National Blend of Models\/Pivotal Weather<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday and this week<\/p>\n<p>Austin on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday could see temperatures soaring to 98 degrees, with heat index values wavering between 103 and 104 degrees, forecasters said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSteady hot and sunny weather is likely to continue as we close out June and kick off July,\u201d the weather service said.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters were anticipating the development of slow-moving systems of low atmospheric pressure over the western United States to allow the system of high pressure dominating our region to shift northward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis should relax the pressure\u00a0gradient over our area with the daytime breezes likely to diminish\u00a0over the course of the week,\u201d the weather service said. \u201cThis change-up only minimally impacts\u00a0temperatures, so daytime highs throughout week ahead are still\u00a0forecast to reach the mid-90s to around 100, with overnight lows\u00a0bottoming out in the mid to upper 70s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fourth of July forecast\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Friday could see afternoon temperatures as high as 99 degrees, the Fourth of July holiday on Saturday could be our first day of 100-degree actual air temperatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first few days of July continue to look dry and we don\u2019t have rain in the seven-day forecast for most of South-Central Texas,\u201d the weather service said.<\/p>\n<p>However, forecasters expect the shifting position of the high pressure to allow rain chances back into the outlook.
