HOUSTON \u2013 Travelers heading to the airport during the government shutdown should pack some extra patience. Both George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)<\/a> and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU)<\/a> encourages passengers to arrive early and allow extra time for security screening until further notice. <\/p>\n

Over the past weekend, the airports warned passengers to expect long lines, after TSA<\/a> staffing shortages caused major delays as fewer security lanes were open, and wait times at Bush Intercontinental potentially exceeded three hours, airport officials said. At Hobby Airport, wait times stretched beyond an hour over the weekend.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Nov. 4, officials said wait times could still reach or exceed 45 minutes at IAH and 20 minutes at HOU. <\/p>\n

Long lines can test anyone\u2019s patience \u2014 but you\u2019re not alone. At Houston\u2019s airports, security screening keeps everyone safe, and a little preparation can make a big difference. Here\u2019s how to breeze through security and stay on schedule without being turned back or stopped in line.<\/p>\n
