{"id":354493,"date":"2026-06-29T15:28:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T15:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/354493\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T15:28:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T15:28:10","slug":"texas-rangers-nearing-deal-with-veteran-starting-pitcher-chris-paddack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/354493\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Rangers nearing deal with veteran starting pitcher Chris Paddack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Rangers<\/a> are close to a major league deal with right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack, a person with direct knowledge of the move told The Dallas Morning News on Monday, as the club looks to fortify its suddenly thin rotation.<\/p>\n<p>The deal is pending a physical, and while the Rangers have an open 40-man roster spot, a corresponding move must be made to add Paddack to their active roster.<\/p>\n<p>Paddack, 30, had a 6.96 ERA with the Miami Marlins and Cincinnati Reds this season before he was designated for assignment by the latter last week.<\/p>\n<p>The Austin native is a veteran starter who\u2019s made 119 starts in his eight-year big league career. He played for the San Diego Padres when Rangers manager Skip\u00a0Schumaker was on staff as a first base coach.<\/p>\n<p>The Rangers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/article\/texas-rangers-jack-leiter-il-starting-rotation-22315886.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">are short handed because of injuries<\/a> and a stretch of games that has taxed their bullpen.
