You protect property. You bring calm to chaotic situations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The big picture<\/p>\n<p>April 9 marked the official anniversary of RFD, which <a href=\"https:\/\/richardsontoday.com\/richardson-fire-department-celebrates-100-years-of-service\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">began<\/a> in 1926 as a small volunteer effort with a pickup truck, according to the city.<\/p>\n<p>RFD added Emergency Medical Services in the 1950s when it put its first ambulance into service. The department grew from four paid firefighters in 1956 to 179 fire personnel and five civilian staff today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we look back over our history, we\u2019ve never been as busy and the city\u2019s never been as big as it is today,\u201d Assistant Chief of Operations Gene Senter said at the event.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead<\/p>\n<p>Richardson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/richardson\/election\/2026\/04\/10\/roads-on-the-ballot-richardson-voters-to-consider-2234m-bond-in-may\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 bond<\/a>, approved by voters in May, included funds for a station remodel, an apparatus storage building and the design and future construction funds for a new Fire Station 7.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe dedicated generations of community, councils, city managers and FD members created a full-service fire, rescue, EMS and fire prevention agency that is rated among the top departments in this country,\u201d Fire Chief Curtis Poovey said.<\/p>\n<p>RFD received its Class 1 Insurance Services Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cor.net\/departments\/fire-department\/about-us\/administration\/iso-1-rating\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rating<\/a> in 2014, which is based on the quality and effectiveness of a community\u2019s fire protection, including its fire department, water supply system and fire alarm and communications system.<\/p>\n<p>The ISO 1 rating is the highest classification a department can receive, and Poovey said at an April City Council meeting that the department aims to <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/richardson\/government\/2026\/04\/16\/richardson-fire-department-sees-calls-increase-structure-fires-decrease-in-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">maintain<\/a> the rating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in a good situation to where we feel like we\u2019re embedded in the neighborhoods and embedded in the communities,\u201d Senter said.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Richardson Fire Department marked 100 years of service with a community celebration on June 27. \u201cYour work&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":355058,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[15],"tags":[126334,3493,4519,16236,5615,125,406,160,162,161,126333,959],"class_list":["post-355057","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-plano","tag-100-years","tag-anniversary","tag-city-council","tag-emergency-medical-services","tag-ems","tag-fire-department","tag-government","tag-plano","tag-plano-headlines","tag-plano-news","tag-rfd","tag-richardson"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/355057","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=355057"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/355057\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/355058"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=355057"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=355057"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=355057"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
