{"id":355149,"date":"2026-06-30T01:46:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T01:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/355149\/"},"modified":"2026-06-30T01:46:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T01:46:16","slug":"texas-adds-a-commitment-from-in-state-2027-defensive-lineman-jason-johnson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/355149\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas adds a commitment from in-state 2027 defensive lineman Jason Johnson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/texas-longhorns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas<\/a> continues to stack talent in its top 10 recruiting class.<\/p>\n<p>The latest commitment comes from in-state 2027 defensive lineman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/jason-johnson-245412\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Johnson<\/a>, who declared for the Longhorns over LSU, Houston, Cal, and SMU.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson is one of the Lone Star State\u2019s most coveted prospects at the position out of Humble (Texas) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/high-school\/atascocita-humble-tx-11078\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Atascocita<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>As a junior last fall, the 6-foot-3, 280-pound DL amassed 29 solo tackles, 21 assisted tackles, eight tackles for loss, five passes broken up, and an interception.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s grown especially fond of his fit on the Forty Acres over the past year and change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas is a great program, full of tradition and development,\u201d Johnson told Rivals of his decision to commit in-state to the Longhorns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe locker room there is different. So is the culture,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo is the tradition there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Position coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/kenny-baker-176120\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kenny Baker<\/a> was a driving force for the Longhorns, along with head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/steve-sarkisian-132832\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Sarkisian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey recruited me early,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cThey made me feel like a priority by showing me love early before I started really getting offers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson is the No. 42 DL in the 2027 class and the No. 59 overall player inside the state.<\/p>\n<p>Like this story0Share article<\/p>\n<p class=\"ArticleLikeBar_meta__MY_jU\">Members only \u00b7 one like per member<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Texas continues to stack talent in its top 10 recruiting class.
