EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A well-known El Paso boxing family will take center stage this 4th of July as the Han family has been selected as parade marshals for the 28th Annual Rotary Independence Day Parade.<\/p>\n
The Han family is a prominent boxing family in the borderland, led by their father and trainer, Bae Hyun Han, who ran a local martial arts academy and introduced the family to combat sports. Siblings Jennifer and Stephanie Han have both reached the top levels of the sport, with Jennifer a former IBF World Featherweight Champion and Stephanie holding a WBA lightweight title. <\/p>\n
The family is also recognized for its community ties, including Stephanie, who balances her boxing career with her work at the El Paso Police Department.<\/p>\n
The family\u2019s boxing success also includes Abraham \u201cAbie\u201d Han, a middleweight professional boxer who at one point held a 17-0 record and has provided training and coaching support to his sisters.<\/p>\n
Other siblings involved in the family’s boxing endeavors include Izzy and Heather Han. <\/p>\n
Speaking to KFOX14\/CBS4 on Monday ahead of the parade, the Han family said they were honored and excited to share this with the El Paso community. <\/p>\n
“I’m super excited to be honored, our family has been a proud representative of the El Paso community for many, many years. In fact, I would like to share that it was 50 years ago that my dad came to the United States during the bicentennial, so this is a huge anniversary for the whole family,” Jennifer Han said. <\/p>\n
Stephanie Han added, “I’m excited, this is the first time we’re actually sharing this honor as a family.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Abie Han said, “It’s an honor to be recognized for this and to be grand marshals for anything, but here in El Paso, the gratitude of this city and this community….This would be impossible without the city of El Paso.” <\/p>\n
The parade will begin on Saturday, July 4 at 9 a.m. in west El Paso. <\/p>\n
According to the Rotary Independence Day Parade website, the parade route will start at Western Hills Methodist Church on Thunderbird Drive.<\/p>\n
It will then continue west and turn left onto Shadow Mountain Drive. The parade route will then continue on Shadow Mountain and turn right onto Mesa Street, following Mesa and turning right onto Champions Place before ending when Champions meets Cloudview.<\/p>\n
