{"id":356054,"date":"2026-06-30T18:28:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T18:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/356054\/"},"modified":"2026-06-30T18:28:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T18:28:10","slug":"georgetown-package-plant-to-support-wastewater-flow-at-pecan-branch-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/356054\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgetown package plant to support wastewater flow at Pecan Branch plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGeorgetown City Council gave initial approval to rezone city-owned property adjacent to the Pecan Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant on June 23, setting into motion planned wastewater system improvements.<\/p>\n<p>What it means<\/p>\n<p>The city is constructing a 1-million-gallon-per-day wastewater package plant intended to help manage peak wastewater flows and improve treated effluent quality at the Pecan Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant, Communications Manager Keith Hutchinson said.<\/p>\n<p>By rezoning the parcel of land from park use to public facility use, the city can move forward with using the facility, which is set to be complete by <a href=\"https:\/\/georgetown-tx.cleargov.com\/projects\/18645\/three-forks-package-plant-prj000936\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">November<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The city owns the property at 3500 FM 971, which is currently in Georgetown\u2019s extraterritorial jurisdiction. As part of the rezoning for public facilities use, the city will also create a municipal service agreement for the package plant to bring it into city limits.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of ongoing water infrastructure projects in the city to provide additional capacity for growth, Hutchinson said.<\/p>\n<p>The Three Forks Water Reclamation Facility\u2014which will be built across FM 971 from the Pecan Branch plant\u2014is part of Georgetown&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/georgetown\/government\/2025\/04\/25\/georgetown-city-council-outlines-196b-5-year-plan-for-water-wastewater-projects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$1.96 billion<\/a> five-year water and wastewater capital improvement plan. Officials are currently in the design phase for the facility, and construction is set to begin in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The city is also constructing the Northlands Water Reclamation Facility and finishing the second phase of the <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/georgetown\/government\/2025\/04\/25\/georgetown-city-council-outlines-196b-5-year-plan-for-water-wastewater-projects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">South Lake Water Treatment Plant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Georgetown will need to expand its water supply by 2030 to support the growing population and increase its drought resilience.
