Going to an expensive restaurant for a nice meal can create a memory for life. But one woman says she\u2019s going to remember a heralded Austin restaurant, and not because she had a positive experience.<\/p>\n
Rambamm (@rambamm), who is originally from Phoenix, took her fianc\u00e9 to Ember Kitchen for an early birthday celebration. By the end of their visit, she said she wouldn\u2019t be returning. Her post about the restaurant has nearly 1,000 views on TikTok.<\/p>\n
What Happened at this Austin Restaurant? <\/p>\n
Rambamm explained in her video that she originally wanted to go to Ember Kitchen, a popular Austin destination, for her fianc\u00e9\u2019s 40th birthday. They made a reservation and went to the restaurant on a Saturday night.<\/p>\n
The TikToker noticed the restaurant had two levels: a main level where performers were playing live music, and a downstairs basement. The main level had \u201cfive or six\u201d tables that were available. But she noticed that their hostess was bringing them downstairs to the basement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis girl starts walking down the stairs. Miss ma\u2019am, why are we walking away from the music? I turn to my fianc\u00e9 and I\u2019m like, \u2018Where are we going?\u2019 And he\u2019s like, \u2018Hmm, I don\u2019t know.\u2019 So we follow her. We let her do her thing, and we get downstairs. And it\u2019s a dungeon. It\u2019s dark. There\u2019s no music down there. You can\u2026 hear people\u2019s conversation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Rambamm didn\u2019t want to be rude, but she also didn\u2019t want to eat at the table the restaurant offered them. She asked if it was possible to move upstairs. The hostess who led them downstairs said they\u2019d see what they could do. Then another hostess got involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s another girl at the hostess stand \u2026 being a little condescending, like, \u2018What was wrong with it?\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018You know, there\u2019s not really anything wrong with it, but the vibe we\u2019re going for isn\u2019t really like serious. We\u2019re here to have fun. It\u2019s our first time. We\u2019re celebrating his 40th, and you know, we just wanna listen to music.\u2019 So then she tells me, \u2018Well, I don\u2019t have anywhere to put you right next to the music,\u2019\u201d Rambamm said. <\/p>\n
Rambamm clarified that she didn\u2019t want to be right next to the music; she just wanted to be nearby.<\/p>\n
The hostess offered her bar seating, which Rambamm didn\u2019t want to take. She asked for a regular table, and they eventually sat down \u201cat the smallest two-top table in a corner by some metal post right in front of the elevator.\u201d<\/p>\n
How were the appetizers and drinks at Ember Kitchen? <\/p>\n
Despite recognizing that they wouldn\u2019t be able to fit all of the food they wanted to order on the table, Rambamm took the two-top. She and her partner began their drink order.<\/p>\n
Rambamm asked for a dirty martini, and she was pleasantly surprised when the employee asked her how many olives she wanted. She asked for four. She received the full olive count, but she was surprised to find that her drink didn\u2019t appear to be full.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u200aWhy does it look like somebody already drank out of it?\u201d she asked. By then, she was questioning if she was going to have a good time, but she continued with appetizers.<\/p>\n
The content creator ordered a hamachi crudo and said it barely had any hamachi in it. She also said the hamachi was \u201cso fishy\u201d and otherwise flavorless.<\/p>\n
The content creator ordered the tuna tartare next and said the plate had a small portion of tuna, especially when compared to the larger portion of guacamole and plantain chips on her plate. Rambamm said the guacamole did not have salt and that the plantain chips were, at times, oily.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She and her fianc\u00e9 ordered an octopus dish next, which had \u201cno flavor.\u201d She said that she received a \u201csingle octopus tentacle\u201d and that everything else on the dish was rubbery. \u201c\u200aIt was over-boiled, and it wasn\u2019t grilled,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
After that round of ordering, Rambamm decided on one of the restaurant\u2019s appetizers that had shrimp in it, which she said was okay.<\/p>\n
How were the couple\u2019s entrees? <\/p>\n
Outside of the appetizers, Rambamm and her partner ordered sides and entrees. But the content creator had issues with those, too.<\/p>\n
She ordered broccolini, which she said came out \u201cice cold.\u201d She also ordered beef tallow fries, which, according to her, \u201ccollapsed\u201d when she bit into them.<\/p>\n
Then came the straw that broke the camel\u2019s back\u2014the steak. Rambamm said her steak was salty and that everything else on her plate tasted flavorless.<\/p>\n
\u201cLike, where did the salt come from earlier in the night, guys? Did you just use it all on the steak?\u201d she asked. She did, however, praise the restaurant for getting the cook on her steak exactly right.<\/p>\n
She took two bites of her meal and returned it to her server, whom she praised for taking the menu item off the bill. Regardless, Rambamm didn\u2019t have a good time at Ember Kitchen.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you ever go to Ember Kitchen, don\u2019t,\u201d Rambamm said. \u201cThat\u2019s all I gotta say to you, because y\u2019all will never see my face, and I\u2019m pretty sure you don\u2019t want to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some even shared experiences they said they had at the establishment.<\/p>\n One said, \u201cI went there for Valentine\u2019s Day. Ordered surf and turf, ate a little lobster and saw the steak was completely cooked through. While I waited for them to recook the steak, I had to run to the bathroom and throw up lobster. Sick for hours that night. Never again!!!\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n Another person added, \u201cWhy the tuna look like road kill \u2026 I would be so mad.\u201d Rambamm replied, \u201cRIIIGHT!!!! \u2026 I was trying to cut the crust off the steak like a psycho. It was just a complete joke.\u201d<\/p>\n Then, a third person suggested the restaurant\u2019s seafood wasn\u2019t fresh. Rambamm replied, \u201c100%.\u201d<\/p>\n As of this writing, Ember Kitchen has 4.6 stars<\/a> on Yelp across more than 300 reviews.
