Greg Abbott\u2019s office announced Thursday. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The facility, which FormFactor expects to bring hundreds of jobs, will also reinforce Texas\u2019 \u2014 and especially North Texas\u2019 \u2014 strong position in the booming global semiconductor industry. The tiny, highly complex chips are found in everything from laptops to hearing aids and also provide the infrastructure that enables artificial intelligence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, FormFactor CEO Mike Slessor nodded to his company\u2019s role in the larger AI boom, referring to FormFactor \u201cas the world\u2019s leading supplier of advanced probe cards, which are used by global manufacturers of the logic and memory chips at the heart of the AI revolution and modern data centers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Texas politicians, including Abbott, were also quick to praise the company\u2019s local manufacturing move.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas is where the technologies of tomorrow are manufactured today,\u201d Abbott said in a statement. He added that the new Farmers Branch facility \u201cfills a gap in the domestic semiconductor supply chain, creates hundreds of new, high-skilled jobs in North Texas, and advances Texas\u2019 leadership in semiconductor manufacturing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Texas state Sen. Tan Parker, R-Flower Mound, whose district encompasses the new facility, called\u00a0FormFactor\u2019s local investment \u201ca tremendous win for North Texas,\u201d while state Rep. Cassandra Garcia Hernandez, D-Farmers Branch, praised the new build for helping keep Texas \u201cat the forefront of global technological innovation while sustaining our regional booming economy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>FormFactor, a company headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area with operations in several countries around the world, announced in November that it began work on the new Farmers Branch site with an initial investment of over $140 million. At the time, Farmers Branch officials praised the move as among the most significant economic developments in the small city\u2019s history: The suburban enclave northwest of Dallas is also home to the headquarters of companies including BSN Sports, an apparel company; and the security company Brinks Home, which recently moved into a new headquarters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>FormFactor did not disclose a construction timeline, and a representative for the company did not immediately respond on Thursday to an inquiry from The Dallas Morning News.<\/p>\n<p>The project&#8217;s $24 million state grant comes through the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund, a program created in 2023 to encourage the industry in the state.
