This month can make or break a college’s recruiting cycle, as many of the country’s elite will finalize their next career steps during this window.

Luckily for the Longhorns, the month of June brought 11 new commitments, including one five-star and five four-star prospects. Texas’ recruiting class climbed to No. 7 in the country, which puts them on track to finish the recruiting cycle with a top-10 ranked class for the fifth consecutive year.

Five-star cornerback and Fort Worth native John Meredith III headlined this June surge, committing to Texas over rival Texas A&M on June 19.

“I knew I was going to go to a Texas school,” Meredith said on the Pat McAfee Show following his commitment. “A lot of people assumed I was gonna go somewhere, but I think I’m just different. … I want to go to the University of Texas. I feel like I’ll be best fitted there.”

Meredith is ESPN’s No. 2 ranked recruit in the class of 2027, making him a noteworthy commit for the Longhorns. Andrew Ivins, 247Sports’ director of scouting, wrote that the prospect is “built for the game’s current era with his long limbs, quick reaction time and elite recovery speed.”

Texas also added four-star cornerback Montre Jackson to its list of defensive secondary commits, and the two could emerge as a threatening pair in burnt orange in the years to come. Jackson selected Texas over programs like Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and SMU.

The Longhorns also earned the commitment of a highly-rated edge rusher in four-star Jabarrius Garror, a player who was pursued by many programs even after committing to Alabama in July 2024. Garror, who attends Vigor High School in Mobile, Alabama, officially decommitted from the state’s flagship university on March 14.

Garror racked up 42.5 sacks and 88.5 tackles for loss across his sophomore and junior seasons, stats that Ivins described as “video game-like” in his recruiting profile for the prospect.

In terms of four-star additions on the offensive side of the ball in June, the Longhorns added offensive tackle Brian Swanson and wide receiver Briceson Thrower Jr.

At 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, Swanson could be the kind of young player Texas needs to help build a foundationally strong offensive line. The Longhorns have stumbled at times in the recent past in this area, so bringing in players of his size and talent and developing them from the start could help provide answers.

Thrower, from Forney, Texas, finished his junior season at North Forney High School with 32 receptions for 529 yards and five touchdowns on 16.5 yards per catch, according to MaxPreps. He posted a 10.76 second 100-meter time as a track and field athlete, and his speed could help him make an immediate impact in a wide receiver room that will likely have lost a few of its critical playmakers by the time he steps foot on the Forty Acres.

Texas currently has a total of 22 commitments, but the cycle isn’t over yet. The Longhorns will have to work to maintain what they already have and top it off with a few more potential playmakers.

The college football recruiting trail demands excellence on a year-round basis, especially for programs competing for the nation’s…

[6
27,29,28
post-359557","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-texas","tag-texas","tag-texas-headlines","tag-texas-news
["GET
