Of course, it also means high heat across Texas, so if you plan on spending time outdoors, try to take the proper heat-related precautions.

ONE YEAR LATER: Why the Hill Country flood became one of Texas’ worst disasters ever

Article continues below this ad

Temperatures on Friday will be near average across South-Central Texas, but elevated humidity levels will still create dangerous levels of heat. Then on Saturday, temperatures are likely to rise slightly higher, and a few parts of the state will likely see temps rise into the triple digits. Here’s what you can expect.

Friday’s forecast

Friday morning will start very similarly to the past several days, with morning temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s under mostly cloudy skies. As skies begin to clear out after 9 a.m., temperatures will start rising steadily, reaching the upper 80s by noon.

Afternoon high temperatures are expected to be near 94 degrees in San Antonio. However, high humidity across the region will result in “feels like” temperatures rising to near 100 degrees from the late afternoon and into the early evening.

Article continues below this ad

Shown are the expected heat index values at 4 p.m. Friday across South Texas.

Pivotal Weather

Temperatures are expected to be even warmer as you push into parts of North and Northwest Texas. Large parts of the Texas Panhandle, as well as the area from Wichita Falls to Childress, are likely to see high temps near 100 degrees.

A few showers and weak storms are also expected to develop Friday afternoon and evening across East Texas, but rain chances in San Antonio will be slim to none.

Article continues below this ad

Fourth of July heat

Temperatures will inch higher for the Fourth of July. In San Antonio, morning temps will once again sit in the upper 70s before afternoon temperatures top out at 95 degrees. With bright sunshine and high humidity still in place, heat index values will climb to around 100 degrees once again.

If you plan to spend part of Independence Day outdoors, be sure to stay hydrated. It’s fine to enjoy a few alcoholic drinks, but drink water between them, as alcohol can speed up dehydration. Also, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors to cool off.

Hottest part of Texas: Northwest Texas and into the Panhandle will see the hottest temperatures in the state. Amarillo is likely to top out at 99 to 100 degrees, while a few smaller Texas cities — such as Childress, Vernon, Perryton, and Stratford — could see highs of up to 103 degrees.

Article continues below this ad

Temperatures are also expected to reach 100 degrees along the Rio Grande, from Eagle Pass to Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley.

Isolated rain chances

Most of Texas will stay dry on the Fourth, but a few isolated showers and storms (20% chance) remain possible across parts of North and East Texas, as well as the Panhandle. San Antonio rain chances are expected to stay under 10%.

Article continues below this ad

By late Sunday and into Monday, rain chances will increase slightly. West Texas and the Hill Country will see rain chances rise to around 30%, while San Antonio rain chances will be near 20%. While not widespread, these look like the best rain chances the region will see over the upcoming week.

Shown are the expected high temperatures across Texas on the Fourth of July holiday Saturday.
