AUSTIN, Texas – All 17 propositions that were put to Texas voters during Tuesday\u2019s election<\/a> passed, most with wide margins.<\/p>\n The constitutional amendments spanned a variety of issues, including bail reform<\/a>, parental rights, water security and dementia research. However, most of them were aimed at taxes.<\/p>\n Big tax breaks for homeowners <\/p>\n What we know:<\/p>\n The biggest tax break for homeowners comes in the form of Proposition 13<\/a>, which increases the homestead tax exemption from $100,000 to $140,000.<\/p>\n Other propositions put limits on future tax actions that can be taken up by the state legislature.<\/p>\n Water security, parental rights and dementia research all pass <\/p>\n Why you should care:<\/p>\n Proposition 4<\/a> allows the state to spend $1 billion a year for the next 20 years on water security and infrastructure.<\/p>\n With the passage of Proposition 15<\/a>, Texas voters made it clear that parents are the primary decision makers for the upbringing of their child.<\/p>\n Texas voters also approved a measure<\/a> that creates a state-funded research institute that will study dementia and Alzheimer\u2019s. It also creates a fund aimed at preventing the diseases.<\/p>\n Measure blocking noncitizens from voting passes <\/p>\n Dig deeper:<\/p>\n Proposition 16<\/a>, which blocks people who are not U.S. citizens from voting passed resoundingly.
