EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A 12-year-old El Paso boy is hospitalized after being diagnosed with a rare kidney disease as his family searches for a new kidney. <\/p>\n
Messiah Gomez is currently hospitalized at El Paso Children\u2019s Hospital after being diagnosed with dense deposit disease. His mother, Marysalma Cargal, said his medical journey began back in November, when he started having seizure-like symptoms, followed by swelling in his face, hands and feet.<\/p>\n
After more testing and a kidney biopsy, his family learned in January that he had dense deposit disease. <\/p>\n
Speaking to KFOX14\/CBS4 on Friday, Cargal said he has now started dialysis, and the next step is finding a possible kidney match.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday was his first day of dialysis. It\u2019s been a rocky road. There are days, you know, we thought it was happening and he\u2019s doing better, but days would then go by, and it\u2019s not, it\u2019s just not getting better,\u201d Cargal said.<\/p>\n
Cargal urged other parents to speak up if they believe something is wrong. <\/p>\n
\u201cI just want every parent to just know always advocate for their kids because if we don\u2019t advocate we wouldn\u2019t you know, I would never be here like my son probably wouldn\u2019t even be here if I didn\u2019t speak up and always be for him. So just advocate if you feel something is wrong and say something,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Cargal said Messiah used to be an energetic kid who loved dancing, making people laugh, and playing with his siblings. <\/p>\n
However, she is still holding on to hope as she said one donor could help save his life and give him the chance to get back to being a kid.<\/p>\n
