Texas will be hot on the Fourth of July, but not necessarily the hottest part of the country. In fact, much of the Lone Star State will run cooler than several major East Coast cities preparing for the nation’s 250th birthday celebrations, including Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Across Texas, afternoon highs will range from around 99 degrees in Dallas and Austin to the mid-90s in Houston, with Corpus Christi expected to stay cooler near 90 degrees.

"High

High temperatures across Texas will mainly be in the 90s but humidity will have them feeling like the low 100s. (Pivotal)

Little to no rain is expected, so fireworks displays across the state should go on without any weather-related issues.

Meanwhile, some of the nation’s largest Independence Day events – including Harborfest in Boston, the Sail 4th celebration in New York City, and the Wawa Welcome America festival in Philadelphia – will be dealing with intense heat during the holiday celebrations.

As a precaution, the National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for those areas through the holiday weekend.

Forecast highs and heat index for Independence Day:

Washington D.C – High: 103 degrees , Heat Index: 109 degrees

Boston – High: 95 degrees , Heat Index: 100 degrees

New York City – High: 97 degrees , Heat Index: 102 degrees

Philadelphia – High: 101 degrees , Heat Index: 105 degrees

Central Texas will have our fair share of fun Independence Day events but be mindful of the heat. B.e sure to stay hydrated, seek shade, put on sunscreen, and take plenty of breaks inside air-conditioned spaces to cool your body down.

Next rain chance?

The heat dome, or upper-level system of high air pressure, will slowly shift east during the second half of the holiday weekend, but it will continue to influence our weather with plenty of sunshine, seasonably hot temperatures, and the potential for a few coastal showers. We’ll also need to keep an eye on the West Texas dry line separating dry and humid air masses, where a few showers and thunderstorms could develop.

While next week looks mostly dry across Central Texas, the Climate Prediction Center is hinting at a possible pattern change during the following week.
