These devices capture images of passing vehicles and compare them to law enforcement databases. According to a publicly accessible map maintained by Deflock<\/a>, over 120 Flock cameras have been installed throughout Lubbock.<\/p>\n

Just days ago, residents in Smith County<\/a> in East Texas gathered at a public meeting to learn more about proposed Flock cameras after local officials discussed expanding the technology, underscoring how communities across Texas are grappling with the balance between public safety and privacy.<\/p>\n

Recently, several Texas communities-including Austin<\/a>,\u00a0Conroe,<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Bandera<\/a>-have debated the expansion or deployment of Flock camera systems, underscoring the\u00a0growing statewide discussion<\/a> about balancing public safety with privacy.<\/p>\n

It remains to be seen whether the Independence Day demonstration will change policy in Lubbock. However, as more Texas communities begin installing Flock cameras, an increasing number of residents are questioning where crime prevention ends and surveillance begins.<\/p>\n
