LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A lifelong Texas Tech fan is facing a scheduling conflict, after ESPN\u2019s College GameDay announced it would visit Lubbock for the Red Raiders game against BYU the day after his wedding in Dallas.<\/p>\n
Taylor Karrh has been waiting for College GameDay to return to the Hub City for half his life, since he was 17 years old the last time the crew came to Raiderville.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a decade plus of not having a lot to cheer for. You know, the last time we were this good was \u201908,\u201d Karrh said.<\/p>\n
The Red Raider fan scheduled his wedding to fianc\u00e9e Rachael Lenhart for a Friday in Dallas, specifically to avoid conflicts with football season.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, like it is a fall wedding. And that\u2019s like the joke that\u2019s going on X is that, you don\u2019t book fall weddings, but we did book it for a Friday,\u201d Karrh said.<\/p>\n
Lenhart said she supported the Friday timing, coming from a big football family.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was hard for a fall wedding, but I was like, \u2018I\u2019m a football fan, too. I don\u2019t want him and his buddies to be on their phone, you know, so I was like, for sure, not a Saturday, let\u2019s do a Friday,\u2019\u201d Lenhart said.<\/p>\n
The couple never anticipated College GameDay would visit Lubbock the Saturday after their Friday wedding, creating a logistical challenge.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think we\u2019re going to be in very good shape to make a drive to Lubbock first thing Saturday morning. So it\u2019s just, it\u2019s very hard to get there,\u201d Karrh said.<\/p>\n
Karrh poked some fun at his wife on X about the dilemma, getting 13,000 likes.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I just, sarcastically asked her like, \u2018how many retweets to move it?\u2019 And she\u2019s like, \u2018I\u2019m not even giving an answer,\u2019\u201d Karrh said.<\/p>\n
Lenhart eventually set the bar at one million retweets. Karrh\u2019s follow-up post received nearly 3,000 reposts and caught the attention of major accounts, including ESPN\u2019s Holly Rowe, who offered to officiate the wedding.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s when people really started, I mean, some really big accounts retweeted it and like Holly Rowe quote tweeted it and offered to be our officiant. And so it just took a life of its own after that,\u201d Karrh said.<\/p>\n
Lenhart said the responses ranged from being critical of either her or Karrh, but she couldn\u2019t help but laugh.<\/p>\n
\u201cGet out now, like she\u2019s gonna control you for the rest of your life. And then there was some people that were like, it\u2019s just a football game, like record the TV,\u201d Lenhart said.<\/p>\n
Karrh praised his fianc\u00e9e\u2019s reaction to the attention.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s been a good sport about it. And that\u2019s one of the reasons, you know, why I\u2019m going to marry her is because she, she gets it. She\u2019s a sports fan, too. And so she could take it,\u201d Karrh said.<\/p>\n
The couple plans to watch the game with family and friends at a Dallas bar. They remain open to other possibilities, though, like the offer of being flown to Lubbock on a private jet.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy family\u2019s like, well, if they sent a jet Saturday, like, would you go? And I was like, okay, guys, like, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s going to happen. And Taylor\u2019s like, well, Pat Mahomes might be there Friday. Like, maybe he\u2019ll come crash the wedding,\u201d Lenhart said.<\/p>\n
Karrh said he\u2019s saving his requests for potentially bigger games this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are expecting bigger games this year, so we will, I\u2019ll put those in my back pocket,\u201d Karrh said.<\/p>\n
