When it comes to scouting, it is an imperfect science. We have seen zero- and one-star recruits make a major impact, while five-stars struggle to live up to the hype. When it comes to quarterbacks, I still tend to trust the talent, and that is the case for Houston’s Conner Weigman.

Weigman showed major upside at Texas A&M, and his move to Houston was for development, which there were glimpses of last season. Let’s talk about it.

Height: 6’3″Weight: 210 lbsRecruiting rank: Five-star recruit, no. 3 QB nationally in 2022Hometown: Cypress, TexasGames watched: Oregon State, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, West Virginia, LSU (Bowl game)Strengths:Plus arm strengthSnappy release, always seems to be in rhythm despite pressureDoes well hitting the short and intermediate throwsWhen he’s on, he can layer throws with the best of them in the classTends to play his best in bigger momentsExpert NFL picks: Exclusive betting insights only at USA TODAY.Weaknesses:Injury history is a concernNeeds to find consistency in his gameNeeds to be less of an arm thrower (using his legs more to drive the ball)Won’t bring a ton as a playmakerCan he find trust in his deep ball?

Conner Weigman is no future Hall of Famer, I will say that. However, I still find myself in his camp more than out. The talent is there, and when he is on, his offense hums. Weigman gets a fifth-round grade and could find himself as a quality backup in the NFL, and depending on how this season goes for Houston, he could see his name called earlier on day three than expected.

July 5, 2026, 8:25 p.m. CT When it comes to scouting, it is an imperfect science.
