If you follow along, it’s easy to see that there’s always something changing at Texas TV stations<\/a>, whether that be a new addition making their mark, a bittersweet departure <\/a>or other shuffles. That’s true for one Corpus Christi TV station, which just welcomed a new reporter after quite a few changes in recent months.<\/p>\n

Corpus Christi native Jordan Benavides is the latest to join KRIS 6, the station announced in a Facebook post<\/a> on June 29. In the post, the station wrote, “We’re thrilled to welcome Jordan to the KRIS 6 family! This Corpus Christi native is back home and ready to tell the stories that matter most in Kleberg, Brooks, and Kenedy counties.”<\/p>\n

Benavides graduated from\u00a0W.B. Ray High School in 2022 and later graduated from the University of North Texas, located in Denton, in May. According to KRIS 6, it was at UNT that Benavides gained “hands-on experience from the award-winning student newsroom at\u00a0NTTV, where he worked as both a live reporter and producer.”<\/p>\n

“Jordan knows the Coastal Bend like the back of his hand \u2013 because this is where his story began! When he’s not chasing down the next big story, you’ll find Jordan enjoying time with family and friends, hanging out with his orange tabby Garfield, catching the latest wrestling match, discovering new movies, or vibing to live music,” KRIS 6 wrote. “Welcome home, Jordan! We can’t wait to see the incredible stories you’ll uncover in our community.”<\/p>\n

Corpus Christi TV station KRIS 6 sees months of shake-ups<\/p>\n

Benavides’ arrival isn’t the only headline that the station has seen in the past year. Back in December 2025, Stefanie Lauber <\/a>moved into the chief meteorologist spot just after celebrating five years there. She previously told\u00a0MySA she believes she’s the first woman to hold that position at KRIS 6 and the first Latina chief meteorologist in the Coastal Bend.<\/p>\n

In April, Jim Bob\u00a0Breazale<\/a> – KRIS 6 news director since 2021 – announced via LinkedIn that he would be leaving the station and was “exploring roles where strategic storytelling, editorial leadership, and mission-driven team-building are valued. That could mean staying in news or taking those skills somewhere new.”<\/p>\n

That month, reporter Alexis Scott<\/a> jumped from KRIS 6 to San Antonio’s KSAT 12 after three years in the Coastal Bend. She said shortly after arriving that “there’s such a strong sense of community and pride here.\u00a0The city is full of culture, good energy and arriving right before Fiesta was the perfect introduction to all of it.”<\/p>\n
