{"id":36282,"date":"2025-11-05T11:30:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T11:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/36282\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T11:30:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T11:30:07","slug":"richardson-isd-voters-appear-to-approve-historic-1-4-billion-bond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/36282\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson ISD voters appear to approve historic $1.4 billion bond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>North Texas voters considered billions of dollars in school funding measures Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>The largest bond was <a href=\"https:\/\/web.risd.org\/home\/bond2025\/\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Richardson ISD\u2019s $1.4 billion package<\/a>, separated into three proposals.<\/p>\n<p>Unofficial results show <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallascountyvotes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Upload-2.pdf\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">all three propositions appeared to pass<\/a>: Proposition A, worth $1.3 billion to fund new and renovated schools; Prop B, worth $54 million for technology; and Prop C, valued at nearly $7.4 million, to upgrade some stadiums and bring them into compliance with some federal laws.<\/p>\n<p>In Midlothian ISD, southeast of Fort Worth, unofficial early results <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livevoterturnout.com\/ENR\/ellistxenr\/2\/en\/Index_2.html\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">show voters favoring<\/a> all three propositions totaling $389 million. <\/p>\n<p>Proposition A, for $226.5 million, would build new schools and improve others.<\/p>\n<p>Prop B, worth $157 million, would pay for a career and technology center.<\/p>\n<p>Prop C, worth $5.6 million, would fund technology devices.<\/p>\n<p>In Weatherford ISD, west of Fort Worth, voters appeared to reject the district&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weatherfordisd.com\/apps\/pages\/index.jsp?uREC_ID=4448973&amp;type=d&amp;pREC_ID=2696504\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$189 million bond package<\/a>, with <a href=\"https:\/\/results.enr.clarityelections.com\/TX\/Parker\/125141\/web.345435\/#\/summary?category=C_3\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">all three propositions <\/a>failing, according to unofficial results.<\/p>\n<p>Several districts sought approval for VATREs, Voter-Approval Tax Ratification Elections. While bonds can only legally fund capital projects, districts use VATREs to pay salaries, operating expenses and other costs, without incurring new debt.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how some VATREs fared around North Texas:<\/p>\n<p>Carroll ISD: Voters appear to have approved a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southlakecarroll.edu\/vatre\/FAQs\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">VATRE to generate roughly $4 million<\/a> to help compensate for a budget deficit due to enrollment declines.<\/p>\n<p>Denton ISD: Early unofficial results show voters <a href=\"https:\/\/dentonrc.com\/news\/election_2020\/in-early-voting-results-denton-isd-voters-lean-toward-approval-of-prop-a\/article_7b406094-3452-4c9d-93f5-5f12f34feaa9.html\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">appear to have approved <\/a>a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keranews.org\/education\/2025-10-21\/a-guide-to-understanding-denton-isds-proposed-tax-increase\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">VATRE worth $26 million<\/a> to battle recent record inflation, restore previous budget reductions, and improve pay that to help retain teachers. <\/p>\n<p>Garland ISD: Its VATRE, which would <a href=\"https:\/\/garlandisd.net\/about\/prop-2025\/prop-funding-overview\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">generate $56 million in additional annual revenue<\/a> for special education, salary hikes for improved teacher retention, student programs and added safety and security measures, appears to have passed, according to unofficial results.<\/p>\n<p>Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD: The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hebisdschoolfunding.com\/\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">VATRE worth $6.5 million<\/a> to raise teacher and staff salaries and expand student programs appeared set to pass as of 10:45 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Northwest ISD: A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nisdtx.org\/about-nisd\/2025-prop-a\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">VATRE to generate about $12 million<\/a> to help reduce class sizes and improve teacher compensation appeared set to pass, according to unofficial results.<\/p>\n<p>Rockwall ISD: The district\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockwallisd.com\/about-us\/vatre2025\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$16.5 million VATRE<\/a>, for underfunded mandates, competitive teacher compensation, and required safety measures, appears to have passed.<\/p>\n<p>Bill Zeeble is KERA\u2019s education reporter.
