KEMAH, Texas \u2013 Jordan \u201cTiny\u201d Wilmore, a 7-foot-3 former basketball player whose journey to becoming a police officer has inspired many across Texas, will officially be sworn in as a Kemah police officer<\/a> Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kemah City Hall, marking the final step in Wilmore\u2019s journey to joining the department after overcoming a major setback.<\/p>\n

Wilmore first made headlines after missing the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement licensing exam by just one point, delaying his dream of becoming a police officer. Instead of giving up, he returned to the police academy, continued training and recently passed the state licensing exam.<\/p>\n

His determination also caught the attention of NBA legend Shaquille O\u2019Neal, who helped sponsor Wilmore\u2019s return to the academy after learning about his story.<\/p>\n

Before pursuing a career in law enforcement, Wilmore played college basketball at Northwestern State University and Texas A&M University-Commerce before continuing his career professionally overseas.<\/p>\n

Standing 7 feet, 3 inches tall, Wilmore is believed to be one of the tallest police officers in Texas.<\/p>\n

The Kemah Police Department<\/a> announced Monday that Wilmore will officially join the department during Tuesday\u2019s ceremony and invited members of the public to attend and welcome the city\u2019s newest officer.<\/p>\n
