EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The Fourth of July may be over, but the busiest days of the year are just beginning for El Paso Animal Services as the shelter deals with a surge of pets frightened by fireworks.<\/p>\n
Speaking to KFOX14\/CBS4 on Monday, El Paso Animal Services said up to 300 pets, including cats and dogs, were brought to the shelter over the Fourth of July holiday weekend after running away from home.<\/p>\n
Destiny Valdez, a social media specialist for El Paso Animal Services, said the increase is typical for this time of year, but the shelter still needs help. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe numbers we are seeing are normal for this time of year and expected however, we are still needing the help of the community as much as we can get,” Valdez said.<\/p>\n
The shelter is now beyond capacity and is asking anyone whose pet went missing over the weekend to come check the shelter.<\/p>\n
“If you can foster or adopt and reclaim your pets,\u201d Valdez said, adding that reclaim fees have been waived through the end of July to help reunite more families with their pets.<\/p>\n
