Both parties have rescinded, and Pride Holdings is no longer involved in Cheer Up Charlies. Our [LLC] membership interests have been returned and we (Tamara Hoover &amp; Maggie Lea) remain owners of Cheer Up Charlie,\u201d co-owners Hoover and Lea said in a statement they shared with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austinchronicle.com\/music\/takesies-backsies-cheer-up-charlies-leaves-deal-with-pride-holdings-group\/?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=daily%2011-4-25%20breaking&amp;utm_source=ae90959245&amp;utm_source=DAILY+NEWS&amp;utm_campaign=7beaf8fbd5-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2025_11_04_10_37&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_-7beaf8fbd5-62173861&amp;mc_cid=7beaf8fbd5&amp;mc_eid=3417ac31c1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Austin Chronicle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Less than a month ago, on Oct. 14, Public Holdings Group, an LGBTQ+ nightclub and entertainment group, announced its acquisition of Austin\u2019s beloved bar. <\/p>\n<p>The deal came after Cheer Up Charlie\u2019s nearly closed its doors for good on Sept. 1 due to $58,000 of unpaid back rent. Austinites refused to let the Red River Cultural District staple shutdown after 16 years and rallied behind the venue to raise the funds it needed.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after, Pride Holdings announced it would <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/tx\/south-texas-el-paso\/news\/2025\/10\/14\/florida-investment-firm-acquires-cheer-up-charlies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">acquire Cheer Up Charlie\u2019s<\/a>. Along with the acquisition, the bar shared plans to increase its reach into more Texas cities with openings in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>Lea and Hoover said they would continue to hold leadership roles with the business; however, the decision raised concern among some community members.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Neal, owner of historic LGBTQ+ bar Oil Can Harry\u2019s, told The Chronicle he feared the deal might strip Cheer Up Charlie\u2019s of its local character.<\/p>\n<p>When questioned on Oct. 31 by The Chronicle about what written protections were in place to shield future altercations, Price Holdings did not comment.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, Pride Holdings PR representative Michael Goodman maintained the company was adamant about its desire to be involved in Austin\u2019s community and shared plan to join the city\u2019s LGBT Chamber of Commerce.
