INGRAM, Texas \u2014 Ten concrete slabs line an empty lot in Ingram, Texas. It\u2019s where trailers used to be before the Guadalupe River flooded on July 4, 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If you walk down the dirt road next to it, you\u2019ll find a tree, a tree that\u2019s important to Christina Wilson.<\/p>\n
\u201cJulian\u2019s dad planted it,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cIt\u2019s one of the first things he pointed out to me when we first got together and I came over. He was real excited about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
This is where she started dating her fianc\u00e9, Julian Ryan. It\u2019s also where she lost him in the floodwaters that engulfed their trailer along the Guadalupe River last July.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny time I\u2019m really missing him, this is where I feel closest to him,\u201d Wilson said.<\/p>\n
Their story of that terrifying night starts like so many others.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy oldest came in screaming that there was water in the house,\u201d said Wilson.<\/p>\n
But this story became both terrifying and heartbreaking.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had about, I wanna say about that much room between the roof and the water,\u201d Wilson said, while showing about a foot of space. \u201cHe [Ryan] panicked and went and tried to punch the window and cut his arm.\u201d<\/p>\n
Julian Ryan tried to save his family, but he never made it out of that trailer. The blood loss from his injury was too severe.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was crazy trying to understand that he was gone, and he wasn\u2019t coming back. It\u2019s still hard,\u201d Wilson said.<\/p>\n
At 24 years old, with three kids, stricken with grief and overwhelmed with trauma, Wilson had trouble navigating the recovery process.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone keeps telling me to speak my truth and accept the help that\u2019s out there, and I didn\u2019t do that at first. I thought I could do it on my own. I got very overwhelmed,\u201d said Wilson.<\/p>\n
She appreciates the help she has received, but still isn\u2019t sure what the next step will be. She has even considered moving back to the same spot where they were during the flood.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a program opening where I might be able to get into a home and own it if I came back to this property specifically,\u201d said Wilson.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not something she\u2019s fully onboard with, but it might be her only option to give herself and kids a sense of normalcy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want somewhere where my kids can be safe, where they can be home, where they can grow up. I just want what they haven\u2019t had since,\u201d Wilson said.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s uncertainty and there\u2019s doubt, but there\u2019s also something Ryan left her. She\u2019s hoping that’s enough to see her through this difficult time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just wish I could tell him thank you.
