The aggravated assault was considered a hate crime, and carried the potential for life in prison.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Smith admitted in court last week his bias against Asian-owned businesses, and specifically targeted them in the 2022 incident.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/V_HAIR-WORLD-SALON-SHOOTING-5P_KDFWa637_146_mxf_00.00.13.00.png\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" width=\"932\" height=\"524\" data-v-2fe2fe3e=\"\"\/>  <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KDFW\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-94395e58=\"\">The backstory:<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">On May 11, 2022, Smith opened fire at Hair World Salon on Royal Lane in Northwest Dallas.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Three women were injured in the shooting. All three survived their injuries.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Smith&#8217;s plea deal also linked him to two other shootings in 2022 that targeted Asian-owned businesses. No one was hurt in either one of those shootings.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Smith had also been fired from his previous job for assaulting his Asian boss.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/0512suspect.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" width=\"932\" height=\"524\" data-v-2fe2fe3e=\"\"\/>  <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KDFW\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-94395e58=\"\">Dig deeper:<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Investigators say Smith&#8217;s girlfriend told them he developed delusions after a car accident with an Asian man.
