(KXII) &#8211; A driver was taken into custody after Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said he led them on a high-speed chase on I-35 in Carter County Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Mark Schriefer, 72, of Dallas, was booked into the Carter County Jail on July 9. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He faces multiple charges for felony eluding, reckless driving, and operating a vehicle while impaired, according to OHP.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Mark Schriefer was taken into custody after Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said he led them...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/DG3VOXYIFZGCPCY3II7UNHVP3M.jpg\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>Mark Schriefer was taken into custody after Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said he led them on a high-speed chase on I-35 in Carter County Thursday afternoon.(Carter County Jail)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Troopers began pursuing Schriefer just after 3 p.m. on Thursday after multiple callers reported Schriefer was driving recklessly on the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Schriefer led troopers on a chase that lasted minutes, reaching speeds up to 120 miles per hour in moderate traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Two minutes after the pursuit began, Schriefer lost control of his vehicle and wrecked into the center median.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Troopers then carried out a PIT maneuver on Schriefer, who was still attempting to drive on. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A standoff began after Schriefer\u2019s vehicle came to a stop. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to OHP, Schriefer refused to exit his vehicle when responding troopers and Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police officers used a gas canister and were able to arrest him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The interstate was shut down in both directions for nearly an hour during the standoff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Schriefer was transported to the Carter County Jail after receiving treatment for minor injuries at two different local hospitals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He remains in custody at the Carter County Jail.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KXII.
