{"id":368870,"date":"2026-07-10T23:44:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T23:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/368870\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T23:44:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T23:44:21","slug":"austins-matts-el-rancho-files-plans-for-100k-patio-renovation-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/368870\/","title":{"rendered":"Austin\u2019s Matt\u2019s El Rancho files plans for $100K patio renovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of Austin\u2019s most famous Tex-Mex restaurants has filed plans to renovate its South Lamar Boulevard location.<\/p>\n<p>According to a project registration filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the privately funded $100,000 project would add a 781-square-foot roof over the existing outdoor patio at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/story\/entertainment\/dining\/restaurant-reviews\/2021\/11\/05\/restaurants-austin-tx-hall-of-fame-austin-360\/5916128001\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matt&#8217;s El Rancho<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The filing lists a tentative start date of Oct. 1 and an anticipated completion date of April 1, 2027, though the permit remains under review.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe permit is for the replacement of the existing canvas-covered patio section with a permanent structure,\u201d owner Paul Counter told the American-Statesman via text message.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Few Austin restaurants are as deeply woven into the city\u2019s dining culture as Matt\u2019s El Rancho.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Their daughters \u2014 Cathy Kreitz, Gloria Reyna and Cecilia Muela \u2014 along with sister-in-law Estella Martinez, continue to operate the nearly 75-year-old business, whose signature dishes, including the famed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/project\/best-queso-austin\/#matts-el-rancho-link\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bob Armstrong Dip<\/a>, have made it a local landmark.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant was inducted into the Statesman\u2019s Restaurant Hall of Fame in 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"One of Austin\u2019s most famous Tex-Mex restaurants has filed plans to renovate its South Lamar Boulevard location.
