Connor Comeau is a 6\u20194\u201d, 180 lb. lefthanded hitting, righthanded throwing infielder out of Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. Comeau is on the young side for a draftee, as he doesn\u2019t turn 18 until August. He is committed to Texas A&M, though the Rangers wouldn\u2019t be taking him in the second round if they weren\u2019t confident he would sign.<\/p>\n
Comeau offers a quality hit tool with power projection. Baseball America says he \u201cstands out for his present hitting ability.\u201d He has a nice, easy swing and showed strong contact ability on the showcase circuit last summer. He has shown the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields. He has shown the ability to hit for power \u2014 MLB Pipeline notes he finished second in the Home Run Derby at the Canadian Futures Showcase this past summer \u2014 but is still extremely lean currently, so there\u2019s a belief that he should add more power as he develops and his body fills out.<\/p>\n
Comeau played shortstop in high school, but most likely will immediately move to third base as a professional. He has a good arm, but not much speed, so third base would be the best fit for him, if he can stick there.<\/p>\n
Evan Grant had mentioned that the Rangers were impressed with Comeau in a pre-draft workout in Arlington, and I mentioned in my write-up that he could be a target as an above-slot guy in the second round, particularly if they went below-slot in the first round.
