ALAMO HEIGHTS, Texas \u2013 One year after the devastating Hill Country floods<\/a>, the Alamo Heights community gathered to dedicate a new park in memory of 8-year-old Kellyanne Lytal<\/a>, who died while attending Camp Mystic.<\/p>\n

Kellyanne Park officially opened with an emotional ribbon-cutting ceremony. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to describe the emotions, put them into words,\u201d Alamo Heights Mayor Al Honigblum said. \u201cThis project has been going on for some time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Honigblum said the park represents a new chapter after 12 months of mourning. For Kellyanne\u2019s family, the grief remains deeply present. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a nightmare, it\u2019s a parent\u2019s nightmare that you pray you never have to go through,\u201d Malorie Lytal said.<\/p>\n

The tribute also recognizes Sarah Marsh and Lila Bonner, whose grandparents are part of the Alamo Heights community. <\/p>\n

Their names are included alongside Kellyanne\u2019s at the park.<\/p>\n

The Lytal family said the space reflects who Kellyanne was and what they hope the park will bring to others. <\/p>\n

\u201cKellyanne, she was the kindest soul in the whole world,\u201d mother Malorie Lytal said. \u201cSo this park is going to bring a lot of kids together and have kindness and community, and that\u2019s what we want.\u201d<\/p>\n

The park\u2019s location is especially meaningful for the family. It is within walking distance of their home and sits next to the Alamo Heights pool, a place they said Kellyanne loved. <\/p>\n

Malorie said going to the pool was one of Kellyanne\u2019s last requests before leaving for camp. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe said, \u2018I want to spend my last days going to the pool. To the Alamo Heights pool,\u2019\u201d she said emotionally. \u201cSo that\u2019s what we did, and this pool is her happy place.\u201d<\/p>\n

The city is also working on a bronze monument honoring all of \u201cHeaven\u2019s 27,\u201d which is expected to be completed next summer.<\/p>\n
