The New York Yankees drafted El Paso’s Drew Gonzalez <\/a>in the sixth round of the 2026 Major League Draft.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez was the 189th overall pick on Sunday, July 12, which was the second day of the two-day draft.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez graduated from Americas High School this past June and was the El Paso Times’ All-City MVP.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 6-foot-1, 197-pound Gonzalez hit 13 home runs and drove in 54 runs in 2026 and helped the Trailblazers to the Class 5A, Division 1 regional finals. He played third base and shortstop for Americas.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez worked out privately for several teams ahead<\/a> of the draft, including the Yankees, Boston Red Sox<\/a>, Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>, Texas Rangers<\/a> and Baltimore Orioles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If Gonzalez doesn’t sign with the New York Yankees<\/a>, he has signed with Texas Tech University and could play for the Red Raiders.<\/p>\n
