Rae’s, the bakery once housed on Foch Street and known for its handcrafted sugar cookies and homemade desserts, there is good news.

J. Rae’s is returning to Fort Worth, opening a new location July 16 at 3330 West 7th St., not far from the original location.

The bakery was founded in Fort Worth in 2008 by Jana Howell and quickly built a loyal following for its cookies and baked goods before closing in 2013. Now, Audrey Dixon, Howell’s niece who carried the brand forward by opening a Dallas location in 2021, is returning to the city and bringing her sugar cookies with her.

Like her aunt, Dixon fell in love with baking at a young age. She spent her summers helping at the original J. Rae’s, developing a passion for the business that would later shape her career.

“It’s so exciting,” said Dixon, in a news release. “My aunt Jana started J. Rae’s in Fort Worth, and to now be at a place where we are able to open a second location back where it all started is so special.”

And, it’s not like Fort Worth has forgotten J. Rae’s, Dixon said.

“We’ve had customers drive all the way to Dallas just to support us, so being able to serve this community again means everything,” she said.

The new 1,700-square-foot bakery will look familiar to longtime fans. The new location blends J. Rae’s signature black-and-white stripes and hot pink branding with a feminine, modern interior.

Guests can expect J. Rae’s signature hand-decorated sugar cookies alongside an extensive selection of other treats, including fan-favorite flavors ranging from chocolate chip, oatmeal chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies to red velvet, funfetti and lemon cake balls.

Burger Week East

Heading the other way down the turnpike, or Interstate 30 as it is now known, is Fort Worth Burger Week, which is expanding its weeklong celebration of bun-bracketed deliciousness to Dallas.

What’s Up Fort Worth, an online entertainment calendar and sponsor of the event now in its eighth year, is putting Dallas on the menu.

Its What’s Up Dallas spinoff will produce an inaugural Dallas Burger Week to run concurrently, Aug. 16-23. Both events will support area food banks.

Burger Weeks have been successful in stimulating summer business for what is historically a slower time for restaurants, said Greg Heitzman, founder of What’s Up Fort Worth and What’s Up Dallas.

Fort Worth Burger Week has about 30 participating restaurants, all offering a specialty burger for $8.

Burger Week kicks off Saturday, Aug. 16, at Heim BBQ locations in Fort Worth and Dallas.

Aviation acquisition

Fort Worth-based Paslay Group announced June 8 it has acquired Richmond, Texas-based Barich, adding technology and IT expertise to its offerings.

The move will expand Paslay Group’s aviation consulting services to include capabilities in technology strategy, IT planning and airport capital program delivery.

Earlier this year, Paslay acquired two other companies adding expertise in financial, transit, education, municipal and concessions areas.

Banking on basketball

The Dallas Mavericks have announced a multiyear partnership with JPMorganChase designating Chase as the official jersey patch and banking partner for the team.
